With a new year comes new decorating tips for bedrooms, and what a better way to give your home a little facelift than with styling your bedroom.

We all want a bedroom that feels spacious, relaxing, and filled with natural light. When we wake up in the morning we want to be ready to go, and when we hit the pillow at night, we want a calming and quiet space to finish the day.

With all this in mind, let’s take a look at some of the best ideas for styling your Balmain bedroom in 2022.

1 Wall colours

A coat of new paint is a cost-effective and easy way to bring a whole new look to your bedroom. The bedroom is the place to choose subtle and calming colours rather than bold bright hues. Blues, lavenders and greens are calming colours, while warm tones like deep brown, pomegranate and warm greys bring a sense of comfort.

If you love bright colours, try using a toned-down version of your favourite in the bedroom ‒ blush instead of red, peach instead of orange or a rich cream instead of yellow.

2 Rugs, cushions and throws

If you are after a quick and easy way to style your bedrooms, think rugs, throws and cushions. These can easily be matched to the style of your home and you can buy new or ‘pre-loved’. This is a good option if you don’t have a lot of time, and want to style your room for a visitor or even for a property appraisal.

3 Wall panels

If you own an older home, or you need to consider adding extra insulation to your home, wall panels are becoming a popular choice. Panels give you the chance to cover up imperfections on your walls, but also add visual interest; think shiplap and battens. Panels come in many materials but we prefer timber and eco-friendly materials.

4 Mirror, mirror

Mirrors can help bring additional light to your bedroom. For a darker room, maybe south-facing, hang a mirror on the wall opposite a window to reflect the natural light. The style of your room will dictate the type of mirror you choose. For older, more vintage-styled rooms, a large old cheval mirror may work, while for more modern rooms, a mirror with clean lines may be a better option.

5 Textured headboards

Headboards can add an interesting statement to your bedroom. The headboard is often the focal point in a bedroom, and a well designed headboard could make your room pop.

6 Green up your bedroom

Plants are another easy way to upgrade your home. Hanging and standing plants bring a touch of calmness to your room, as well as boosting your mood, increasing creativity, and reducing stress. If you have children or pets, make sure you pick non-toxic plants without sharp points. While Dracaena trifasciata (mother-in-law’s tongue) might add a beautiful sculptural element, the points of the leaves are really sharp and not suitable for pets or small children.

7 Minimalism

Minimalism may have lost its appeal for living spaces but when it comes to the bedroom, a clean and clear space is always a winner. However, adding a comfortable bench or an easy chair gives you somewhere convenient to sit while you are putting on your shoes or a place to pop those pillows and throws at bedtime.

8 Wall-mounted shelving

As our homes get smaller, storage space is at a premium. A great way to store those books you’re reading or your favourite family photos.

9 Light up the night

During the day, natural daylight is an absolute must. But at night, you want different types of lighting for different activities. General lighting from an overhead light is good if you need bright light for dressing (or packing…remember packing?) Wall lighting or standard lamps offer a softer ambience while your bedside reading lamp is perfect for cosying up with the latest best seller. If your bedroom is too small for a bedside table and lamp, then consider installing a pendant light to save floor space.

10 Storage

We love clever storage like blanket boxes that double as a seat, window seats with storage underneath, or ottomans that include storage. You have a practical piece of furniture while adding to your storage capacity. You might add a beautiful basket to hold extra cushions or throws so they’re corralled but look stylish.
