With summer just around the corner, are you ready for those warmer months to hit? Whether it’s weekend barbecues, days spent lazing by the pool, picnics at one of our Inner West swimming spots, wearing the latest summer fashions or exploring the surrounding areas, now is the best time to get prepared.

Summer fashion

With summer comes swimwear and pool/beach accessories. There are a few local stores where you can nab yourself some new swimwear including:

Acte 3 ‒ 341 Darling Street, Balmain. Find them on Instagram, too: @acte3lingerie.

Baku ‒ Lvl 1, Birkenhead Point or find them on Instagram: @bakuswimwear.

For beach and pool accessories, Adairs and Bed Bath N’ Table at Birkenhead Point have you covered for beach towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, the latest beach trolley and beach bags big enough for the whole family.

If you’re keen to check out some of the best snorkelling spots around Sydney, you can find everything you need for your snorkelling adventure at Adreno on Botany Road in Alexandria.

Snorkelling in Sydney

Talking snorkelling, there are some amazing spots around Sydney to try. Here are some of our favourite recommendations:

Clovelly: A great spot for beginners, particularly on those perfect summer days. The Bronte-Coogee coastline is an aquatic reserve; we’ve seen manta rays from the coast, so you are almost certain to spot some underwater residents.

Gordons Bay: Another great spot and it has its own underwater nature trail. Follow the line of sunken drums, linked by chains, and keep your eyes out for starfish, cuttlefish, sea urchins and a huge range of fish species.

Oak Park: If you’re up for a drive and are confident with snorkelling in the open water, heading down to Cronulla and snorkelling at Oak Park is a must. It is one of the largest marine sites in Sydney so on any given day, you’re going to have a great day ‒ seahorses and turtles are often spotted here. For beginners, the tidal pools are a great place to start.

Entertaining outdoors

If you’re a big entertainer, summer is of course one of the best times of the year to invite friends and family around for a few drinks and a barbecue lunch or dinner. If you haven’t switched on the barbecue for a few months, check it before you invite friends and family over. You don’t want to be caught out when hungry guests are waiting for their food.

October is a great time to do a top to bottom inspection: look for signs of rust, give the equipment a clean to get rid of any bugs or pests that called your covered barbecue home during winter, and check the fuel line for your gas bottle. If you find any signs of decay or damage, then head down to one of the many Swap N Go locations in Balmain and Rozelle to pick yourself up a new bottle.

You might also want to pick yourself up some new barbecue accessories to start the summer off to a fresh start.

Want to ramp up your backyard entertaining? Have you ever considered an outdoor backyard cinema? It’s simple to set up and is the perfect way to kick back and relax with a drink and some nibbles on balmy summer evenings.

Sprucing up indoors

Many of us tend to let things go a little during the cooler months, so a spring clean should be on the cards to refresh your home. You don’t need to do a full deep clean on your home, but there are some little things you should have on your list including:

  • Give the ceiling fans a clean
  • Have the air conditioner serviced
  • Dust
  • Declutter
  • Wash windows internally and externally
  • Clean internal and external blinds

Spending an hour or two on the weekend, or engaging help, freshening up your home will help you be summer ready.
