Brunch ‒ it’s the one meal that will never judge you. You can go for brunch looking sleek and put together and ready to face the day, or after a long night of work, study or dealing with a baby; this meal covers it all.

Eaten somewhere between traditional breakfast and lunchtimes, sometimes accompanied by a drink, brunch gives you the best of both worlds ‒ the breakfast menu and the lunch menu.

The benefit of brunch? It’s a slow meal ‒ it’s the meal you take to catch up with friends without the hustle and bustle around you. But in reality, it’s good for everyone: if you have young children, you don’t need to be rushing out the door to arrive before the breakfast menu finishes; if you’ve had a late night you can roll out of bed without the alarm; and if you’re heading out for a first date, brunch has no expectations. Best of all for busy people, brunch lets you catch up with friends and family but gives you back the rest of your day.

Here in the Inner West, weekends are for relaxing and brunch is high on the list of things to enjoy. And while ‘best brunch in the Inner West’ is subjective, we thought we’d share some of our favourite brunch locations for you to try.

Acai Bowls at Fruitologist

2 Nagurra Place, Rozelle

Mix brunch with your weekend produce shopping at Fruitologist. Enjoy an acai bowl, smoothie bowl, fresh coffee and delicious treat while you people watch or settle back after a weekend stroll through the Rozelle Collectors Markets. We love the pink pitaya bowl and the kombucha on tap.

Kafeine

260 Darling Street, Balmain

Down on Darling Street, the bright, up-tempo Kafeine offers a great all-day menu, making it the perfect location for friends, or to take mum to for Mother’s Day. Kafeine is made for brunch, with the Salmon Paradiso and Mushroom Goodness one of our regulars. Make sure to grab a coffee made on Ona’s Maple beans.

Contessa Balmain

Shop 371A & 371B Darling Street, Balmain

Licensed for even a Champagne Brun, with an all-day breakfast menu, and lunch from 12 – 3, Contessa Balmain gives you plenty to choose from.
The Farmhouse Omelette is always a great brunch choice while the Italian Eggs and Meatballs is perfect for when you feel like a little more.

Egg of the Universe

711 Darling Street, Rozelle

For those who prefer things a little healthier, Egg of the Universe on Darling Street offers the wholefoods approach. A yoga, café and wellness space, is a great choice for brunch after a yoga session. The Wholefoods Breakfast Bowl and Genmaicha tea is a great ways to get the day started. There’s also a ‘grab and go’ section to get something for later.

Bertoni

281 Darling Street, Balmain

Named after brothers Bert and Tony and serving Sydneysiders for over 15 years, Bertoni offers a casual dining experience for breakfast and lunch. With some of the more traditional fare, some of our favourites include the Truffled Eggs, the Pastrami Bagel and the range of paninis.

Hungry Bull Co

411 Darling Street, Balmain

If you love brunch with a little atmosphere and character, Hungry Bull Co is the place to be. With its combination of Mediterranean flavours and more traditional Australian fare, you can expect to see burgers, gozleme, and a cabinet full of delicious treats. Hungry Bull Co is great for light brunches.

The Fenwick

2-8 Weston Street, East Balmain

Brunch on the Harbour Foreshore? The Fenwick offers one of our favourite brunch locations and is our go-to for special occasions like Mother’s Day. With its sensational views over the harbour to the bridge, you can watch the ferries glide by as you enjoy simple options like Sydney Rock Oysters or Confit Calamari, or mains including Gnocchi or lamb rump. While not a traditional brunch menu during the week, The Fenwick is open for breakfast on weekends, with takeaway coffee and pastries available seven days a week.
